June 2 A to Z Answers

Here are the answers to tonight's YellowBelly A to Z Quiz. See you at Quiz Central on June 9th.

1.     Television show (Survivor, Fame, The Wire, Twilight Zone, Riptide, Mad About You and Californication are all names of songs along with names of TV Shows)
2.     Exclamation point (Wham! Hey Rosetta! Panic! At the Disco, Whoomp! There it is, Hey Ya! And Hey Man!  All have exclamation points
3.     Rickroll (as in Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley). It’s now or NEVER, It’s GONNA be Me, GIVES YOU Hell, I’m Gonna Sex You UP; NEVER, I’m GONNA Be, I will never LET YOU DOWN). Did similar before down at YellowBelly – thought it was time to bring it back
4.     Cumin. Cayenne, Curry, Mustard, Cinnamon and Nutmeg are all spices – and down the green column is CUMIN
5.     Fingers (Rollie) – the rest are all somehow connected to the word ROCK.
6.     Macron (Emanuel) – left the person gender-less to add some confusion. Macron is more than 20 years younger than his wife.
7.     Leviticus. First five books of the bible- the Pentateuch. Genesis, Numbers, (old) Deuteronomy and Exodus are the answers to the other questions
8.     KFC. They had a silent contest – the first person to notice that the 11 they are following are the 5 Spice Girls and 6 guys named Herb (11 Herbs and Spices) got a painting of themselves getting a piggyback from the Colonel!
9.     Weather: Foggy Nelson, Sharon Snow, Rainn Wilson, Gorilla Monsoon, Mason Storm, Lightning McQueen, Rueben Hurricane Carter)
10.  Quimby (Diamond Joe). As in Joseph Fitzgerald O'Malley Fitzpatrick O'Donnell The Edge "Diamond Joe" Quimby Jr.
11.  Pop-O-Matic. Pop-O-Matic Pops the dice. Pop a six and you move twice (etc.) from the game Trouble.
12.  Blue’s Clues. Blue’s pals of note are Periwinkle, Magenta, Turquoise, Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, Paprika (all spices from KFC recipe), and Steve (still alive) was replaced by his ‘brother’ Joe after 4 seasons. I was expecting some of you might have gone for The Wiggles or Teletubbies! Did anyone go down that road?
13.  Geese/Goose (a-laying). All gifts from the 12 days of Christmas, with neither sign of a goose.
14.  Scarborough Fair/Canticle. Former MHA Betty Parsley, Sage Stallone, Rosemary Clooney and Time Magazine = Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme
15.  Vogue: Madonna’s Vogue, the Magazine Vogue, Vogue Optical. Thanks to Andrew Dominie for the question
16.  Jakarta: There are some contenders. But the capital needs to be 7 letters to get the 50 point bingo and you need to be able to place a high scoring letter on the double letter. JAKARTA fits the bill for 104.
17.  O’Toole. Timmy O’Toole from Simpsons fame – just a prank by Bart, which spawned the song “We’re Sending our Love Down the Well” featuring Sting as a lead and Diamond Joe Quimby in the Chorus, along with Bleeding Gums Murphy and many others
18.  Dill: Rill, Dell, Dial, Dili, I’ll and Dil from Rugrats. Dill is an herb too, btw.
19.  Xerox. Top middle is Xerox. The others are Others: FedEx, Dos Equis, Rolex, Netflix, FOX.
20.  Yar (Tasha). Yar (from Star Trek The Next Generation) backwards is Ray, and actress Denise Crosby was on the first few seasons of Ray Donovan.
21.  Zorro. Often just a Z. Zorro was popular the world over for a long long time. Originator was Johnston McCulley who also wrote as people named George, John, Harrington, Rowena, and Monica.
22.  Nepal. The countries shown are Namibia, Eritrea, Palau, Azerbaijan, and Lesotho.
23.  Ulysses. Main Character is Leopold Bloom, and the celebration day in Dublin (among other cities) is Bloomsday!
24.  Indiana (India(na)). Na is the symbol for Sodium. India, followed by Na = Indiana
25.  Harbour Grace.
26.  Americans (The). Keri Russell is American. Matthew Rhys is Welsh (not American). The characters on the show are Soviet Spies playing an American couple, but they are not American. They are a couple in real life. And Rhys won an Emmy for his portrayal.
