Week 8 Answers

1. Explosion. Each song suggests explosion: TNT, Boom Boom Pow, Dynamite, Cherry Bomb, Champagne Supernova
2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs: They all have double words (Duran Duran, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goo Goo Dolls, Mr. Mister, Ting Tings), but The Yeah Yeah yeahs took it to triple strength
3. Apostrophe (O’Connor, Sweet Child o’ Mine (G’N’R), Can’t Feel my Face, T’Pau, O’Siem, Des’ree, Don’t Stop Believin’)
4. OBGYN. How weird. It is an acronym for Obstetrics and Gynecology. But not OG, or ObGy. It’s O-B-G-Y-N (but, like the B doesn’t stand for anything). Why is that?
5. Gary. Larrys, Jerrys, Barrys, Carys, Harrys, Perrys are all on the outs too. Terry is hanging in there.
6. Victor/Victoria
7. Jediism. How did this happen? An elaborate prank? A mind trick?
8. Fleur-de-lys (Lily also seems acceptable)
9. Dublin. May be a RECORD. Guinness Record. Anyone? OK Chris wrote that.
10. Brigus. In The Heat of the Night, Rocky, Unforgiven, Green Book, Braveheart and Shakespeare in Love. I, R, U, G, B, S jumbles to Brigus.
11. Thomas. C. Thomas Howell was hopefully a tipoff. We will also accept Middle (for Middle Name)
12. Chernobyl. 1985 population was almost 50000!
13. Kubasonics. Wicked local band with a cult following
14. Hyacinth. Tough one. Most of the references here were tricky.
15. Lazenby (George). Lazenby. George Lazenby. Played Bond that one time.
16. Spider Man. Yep, in another universe, Spider man is a villain.
17. Ramses II
18. Predator Such a cool piece of trivia. Also of note, Van Damme was originally cast as the Predator, but he wouldn’t stop doing fancy kicks, so they fired him.
19. Maracas. I have Maracas from Caracas (etc.). Tuba and Juba are also correct. Sorry about the duplication.
20. Wolfram. Tungsten’s symbol is W for Wolf-ram. And some people just call it wolfram.
21. Underoos. “Underoos are fun to wear!” Also iron man calls Spider-Man underoos in Captain America: Civil War
22. Quinine: We go from HawKING to McQUEEN to BoJACK to RotTEN to the chemical formula/diagram for QuiNINE.
23. Zipper: There was a time when almost every zipper had the YKK. Which stands for (say it with me) Yoshida Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha
24. X-Rated. Dirty dogs.
25. Navratilova (Martina)
26. Index. Fingers man. Tom Thumb, Ring, Pinky Tuscadero, The Middle.
