Answers for Week 9
Here are the answers to our Week 9 Quiz.
1. Hurt. The songs/artists are Styx, The Stones, I Want to Break Free, Little Bones, Say my Name, Never be the Same. Sticks and Stones with Break my Bones but Names will Never HURT me.
2. Meat Loaf. All other artists are fruit: Cranberries, Neneh Cherry, Blind Melon and Bananarama.
3. France. The decimals represent the national holiday (Day.Month) for each country. France is July 14.
4. Iraq. These are all of the “I” countries (Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Iran, India, Indonesia, Italy). Iraq is missing. Note Ivory Coast is not a country (Cote D’Ivoire)
5. Elvish. Elvish is a language, no? And Elvis is an entertainer.
6. Kutcher (Ashton). OK here we go: Eric Stoltz was replaced by Michael J. Fox (in Back to the Future). Fox got the Parkinson’s and was replaced by Charlie Sheen (Spin City). Sheen had some issues #dragonblood was replaced by Kutcher (2 and a half men).
7. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. These are all last names of the Golden Ticket Holders: TeeVee, Salt, Bucket, Gloop, Beauregard
8. Block (H & R). They were born as Henry and Richard Bloch. Their logo is a block.
9. Rwanda. They had an R on their flag for years. There are very few Rwandans named Wanda, I understand. Do they got any Juanitas? Anyone know if there are a lot of Chads in Chad.
10. Alliteration. All people have same letter for first and last name.
11. Zoom. Are you Zooming now? Zoom has been around since 2012 but only took off in the past few months.
12. Diamond Shreddies. Awesome campaign! It was conceived of by an intern in an ad agency.
13. Geoff. The logos for GE and Off! Spell Geoff. Get off, Geoff.
14. Snooki. Sook turns to Snook turns to Snooki. Errrrrrrright on. Only a half point if you said Snookie, because it does not follow the rules of adding one letter to Snook.
15. Plexiglas. The generic term is plexiglass, but the brand name is Plexiglas to distance themselves from the generic name (like Xerox changed to The Document Company (then changed back)). Smooth move, Plexiglas.
16. Jackson Five. These are all people whose names are the same as the Jackson 5 – Anthony Germaine, Marlon Wayans, Michael Flatley, Tito Ortiz, and Jackie Evancho.
17. Yzerman (Steve). Stevie Y only won 3 Stanley Cups as a player, once in administration.
18. Queen. Two of Queen’s albums – A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races – are named for Marx Brothers movies.
19. Oromocto – Town right next to Fredericton in New Brunswick that fits the bill.
20. Tiger – all the pics are from the Chinese Zodiac.
21. CAPTCHA – That thing where you have to type wonky letters to prove you are not a computer – a modern, simple Turing Test. And, stands for “Completely Automated Public “Turing test to tell” Computers and Humans Apart”. T stands for “Turing Test to Tell”?!
